The Universe has been around for about 14 Billion years. That’s a long time. In fact that amount of time is hard to imagine. There is no way for us to measure or relate that amount of time with anything we personally know. So, here is some perspective where you fit in. If we compress the 14 Billion years of the Universe down to just 14 years, the Earth would have existed for 5 years. If you compress the Universe to just 14 years, dinosaurs would have existed 7 months ago and then went extinct about 3 weeks ago. If you compress the Universe down to just 14 years, the entire history of man would span the last 3 minutes. If you compress the Universe to just 14 years, the Industrial Revolution happened 6 seconds ago. If you compress the Universe to just 14 years, how long have you existed?
Though you may seem insignificant, small and finite, you matter. You matter so much that God created you and he created you good as we read in Genesis. He’s might and power rivals anything we might know. The Creator of all things visible and invisible took time for you. God tells us, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5). Out of all things throughout time, God the Father desires you, “See, upon the palms of my hand I have written your name; your walls are ever before me” (Isaiah 49:16). He is always present in your life. He knows your inner most thoughts, hopes, desires, fears and joys. He knows what makes you come alive and what makes you want to hide. Though you are small, you are important. Out of everything throughout the history of the Universe, you were given the world to glorify Him with your life through Christ whom bridges the gap to the Father. This perspective is a call to know that God Loves you, pursues you, and rejoices when you love him back.
“Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone! Therefore, you shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today. Drill them into your children. Speak of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest. Bind them at your wrist as a sign and let them be as a pendant on your forehead. Write them on your doorposts of your houses and on your gates” -Deuteronomy 6:4-9
